Cetaphil + Baking Soda = Face Expholiant
my face has taken a toll in the past couple weeks with the holidays and the drinking and the (sh!) cigarettes and, mostly, the not sleeping. the wrinkles i have smoothed away after months of care have reappeared, black heads threaten the pores. my skin is dry and oily. i want to scrub away layers until i feel bright and cheerful.
.
while i realize “bright and cheerful” is an unattainable short-term goal, at least i can pretend for a few minutes with this cheap trick: mix some Cetaphil daily facial cleanser with your household baking SODA (not powder). you want a liquidy paste - you’ll see when you apply it - but you want to feel the abrasiveness without hurting yourself. scrub for a minute or two with fingers or a face cloth (you should probably use a face cloth, unless, like me, you don’t do laundry often enough to use one), and rinse.
.
the good news: it’s cheap! the bad news: you can only do it once or twice a week or your face will fall off (seriously: broken blood vessels), so that “bright and cheerful” feeling is fleeting AND sparsely attainable. but, still, worth it. i also use some kind of pore-tightening mask post-exfoliating to create even more of that youthful glowiness.
.
and, i know: it’s “exfoliant.” i didn’t edit to make Katherine’s arm-hairs bristle. as she will tell you, spelling is not my strong suit. -t
